Whenever you add a domain as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that specific service provider. On their end, three records are created automatically right after the domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the domain name where its website is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they show the server that manages the e-mails for that specific domain address. The site and the e-mail hosting are often perceived as one thing, when they're in reality two different services. Having different records for them will permit you to have them with different providers if you'd like. As an illustration, some new provider may have fantastic uptime for your site, but you may not want to switch your e-mail messages from your current host and by employing an A record to point the Internet domain to the first and MX records to have the e-mails with the second, you could get the best of both companies. These records are checked when you wish to open a site or send an email - in either case, the provider whose name servers are used for the Internet domain is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you are going to see the needed site or your email is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting account with our company and you wish to switch either your site or your e-mails to another company, it's going to take you literally only two mouse clicks to do so. Our Hepsia Control Panel provides an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you are going to be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you choose to use a different email provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the standard 2, it will not take more than a couple of clicks either to add them. You can even set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a given MX record will have. The propagation of every record that you change or set up is not going to take more than several hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that indicates how long a record will stay active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, included with our Linux semi-dedicated service, allows you to see the A and MX records for every one of the domain names or subdomains in your account and if needed, to change any of them or create new ones. Managing these records is incredibly easy because all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes a few more clicks and if you experience any difficulties, you can check out our educational videos on how to create A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by people with little or no previous experience, yet advanced enough to offer you total control of all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are moving your e-mails to a different company and they ask you to set up more than 2 different MX records, you may choose the priority of each one.
